Chief of Benin Republic in Egelu , Oba Abdul Wahab Adio Ogunji in Ogunba Kingdom had urged Nigeria government to end the killings due to clashes by imitating Benin Republic ban open grazing.

This was followed by the recent killings in Ogun state communities which led farmers to abscond from their communities for safety to Benin Republic.

However, Oba Ogunji revealed that the majority of Nigeria who went to Egelu and Igana in the Republic of Benin in the wake of the herdsmen attack on certain communities in Yewa North and Imeko Afor local government area in Ogun state had returned to their communities.

Chief Oba Ogunji told Vanguard during their visit to the two communities on Saturday, that Nigerians could take control of the ugly incident, the people had moved back to their ancestors to continue their life.

He added that, 500 people went to Igana, in the wake of the attack, while 300 stayed in Egelu, the few remaining in Egelu and Igana are those who lost their houses and all their possessions during the attack.

He recalled an incident 16 years ago, when communities in ( Yewa) Nigeria and the Republic of Benin filed a lawsuit to challenge and stop open grazing, but because of power games, the case was dropped, but the government of Benin Republic had to ban open bait, I do not know what is happening in Nigeria? he queried.

The traditional ruler then appealed to Nigeria government to proffer a lasting solution to the incessant killings of innocent people, as well as the destruction of farms and agricultural products by herdsmen and their livestock.

Chief Ogunji, said that Nigeria government should emulate the government of Benin Republic by banning open grazing and emphasizing that the system is outdated.

Nevertheless, It was gathered that most people who escaped to Egelu and Igana had returned to Nigeria, but few who still there, expressed their readiness to return to their ancestral home if only the Federal Government could guarantee their safety from herdsmen attacks.
