Belarusian Bodybuilder, Nicknamed ‘The Mutant’, Dies at 36 Due to Heart Attack Linked to Steroid Use

Illia Yefimchyk, a 36-year-old bodybuilder from Belarus, passed away on September 11 due to a heart attack, which has been linked to his prolonged use of anabolic steroids. Yefimchyk, known for his impressive physique and nicknamed “The Mutant”, had been admitted to the hospital on September 6 after his heart started beating heavily.

His wife, Anna, performed chest compressions while waiting for an ambulance and later shared that Yefimchyk’s heart had started beating again for two days, but his brain had stopped functioning. Yefimchyk’s death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from the fitness community, with many offering support to his family.

Yefimchyk maintained his impressive physique through a rigorous diet and training routine, which included consuming up to 16,500 calories a day. He had impressive lifting stats, including a 600-pound bench press, 700-pound deadlift, and 700-pound squats. However, his use of steroids has been cited as a contributing factor to his heart-related death.

The bodybuilding community has been rocked by several recent deaths linked to steroid use, including British bodybuilder Neil Currey, 34, and Brazilian competitor Antonio Souza, 26. These incidents have raised concerns about the potential risks associated with excessive steroid use and intense training regimens.

Yefimchyk’s death serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and safety in the pursuit of physical fitness. While his passing is a tragedy, it may also serve as a wake-up call for the bodybuilding community to re-examine its practices and promote a culture of health and wellness.
