Ban on Cow meat takes effect in the Uwheru Kingdom of Delta State

Obinwannem News Ban on Cow meat takes effect in the Uwheru Kingdom of Delta State

Uwheru, one of the 24 kingdoms in Urhoboland, Delta State, has banned the sale and consumption of cow meat.

The decision was made during a community meeting held on Saturday and attended by popular political figures from the land including the Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare.

The community in Ughelli North Local Government Area has been under herdsmen attacks lately. Earlier reports of Fulani herdsmen attacks in the area left 14 people dead.

The Delta state government condemned the attacks, accusing the Nigerian military of complicity in the Fulani herdsmen terrorist activities across the Kingdom.

Community leaders have stated that up to 86 people have died in the last 12 years since the invasion by the terror group, many of them farmers whose means of livelihood have been destroyed by the herdsmen.

“By this ban, nobody can bring cow meat to any of the communities that made up Uwheru Kingdom for any function, be it burial or any other celebration. You can’t kill our people and expect us to be eating cow meat when our people can’t go to the farm. The ban takes effect immediately.” a source said.
