A journalist of the Voice Of America media company, Grace Abdu, was on Saturday assaulted and arrested by Nigerian soldiers for interviewing residents of Obigbo in Rivers State.

Reports said Abdu was illegally detained by the soldiers for several hours.

A source revealed the journalist stormed Obigbo environs around 11am, arrested by the soldiers around 12pm.

The source further revealed that her equipments were seized as she was kept at the Army Post in Obigbo for several hours before they released her in the evening.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian troops were deployed to Obigbo following the violence that broke out in the town during the EndSARS protest.

Obinwannem News has also reported extra-judicial killings and abuse of human rights against residents by the soldiers, as the security agents continues to move from house to house killing people.

Hundreds of Obigbo residents have been killed, many detained while others are still missing till date.
