Chief Adetunji Adeleye, commander of Ondo state security outfit identified as Amotekun Corps has requested for modern weapons to curb the security challenges threatening the State; noting that criminals have had an edge in terms of security apparatus in the South west.
While pleading with the government to remove limitations to the crime bursting responsibility of the Corps in the region by allowing it to carry sophisticated arms, he said the agency needed encouragement from government to get rid of criminal activities in the State.
Adeyele said, in Akure, the agency was looking forward to acquiring more ‘state of the art’ equipment in order to combat insecurity.
According to him, “Amotekun in Ondo is doing well in terms of good communication, gadget, remuneration of officers and payment of salary.” To enhance their operations, he demanded support from the government.
“The state has just approved the recruitment of additional personnel, and in terms of personnel we are okay,” he added.
Adeleye also stated that “the collaboration between the security outfit and other security agencies has been bearing much fruits through the knowledge and familiarity of the terrain by the Amotekun officials who understand their own environment.
“We have deployed our personnels across the State and they have operational vehicles and motocycles, they are the ones in the bush to pass intelligence to us. They know the indigenes and can easily identify strangers within their vicinity.
“Amotekun has come to stay. There is also a need for proper policing of every nook and cranny of the country,” he said.
He added, “the police force cannot (be able) to do it alone. Other security agencies must join to serve the country”.
He also noted that Amotekun were making sacrifices and are ready to collaborate with armed forces. He assured that there would be no confrontation between Amotekun and other security agencies.
