“Governor Nwifuru Intervenes in Akaeze Crisis: A Bold Push for Peace and Unity Over Elueke Land Dispute”
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has made a clarion call for peace in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area, as he steps into the lingering communal crisis between the communities of Umuobor Akaeze and Ogwor Ishiagu. The dispute, centered on the Elueke parcel of land, has threatened the long-standing unity of the area and raised concerns over the security and development of the region.
During a meeting held yesterday with stakeholders and representatives from both sides of the conflict, the Governor passionately appealed for a resolution, stressing the immeasurable value of peace. He urged both communities to set aside their differences and work together to find a common ground.
“You may not know the meaning of the peace you enjoy until you lose it,” the Governor emphasized, reminding them of the consequences of prolonged hostility.
After listening attentively to the arguments presented by both sides, Governor Nwifuru demonstrated his resolve to prioritize harmony and justice over conflict. In a decisive move, he declared the disputed Elueke land a buffer zone, effectively placing it under government supervision to prevent further clashes.
To further encourage a resolution, Governor Nwifuru issued a two-week ultimatum for the communities to reach an amicable agreement. He cautioned that failure to do so would compel the government to take permanent control of the land, thereby removing it as a point of contention.
“This land does not deserve to be a source of division among brothers,” the Governor stated. “You must embrace peace, for only through peace can development, unity, and prosperity thrive.”
The Governor’s intervention has been widely regarded as a firm but fair approach, with local leaders expressing hope that his efforts will pave the way for reconciliation. His declaration of the disputed area as a buffer zone also sends a clear message of his administration’s commitment to fostering stability and protecting lives and property in Ebonyi State.
As the clock ticks on the two-week deadline, the onus now lies on the people of Umuobor Akaeze and Ogwor Ishiagu to rise above their differences and sow the seeds of peace, in line with Governor Nwifuru’s vision for a united and progressive Ebonyi State.
