A communal crisis ensued between Hausa community and their Yoruba host, early hours of Tuesday as residents ran for safety due to sporadic gunshots at Apata, Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

Nevertheless, the Oyo state Police command restored
peace and order in Apata, after the Commmunual crisis between the two parties.

A credible source displaced in the process of the crisis, also taking refuge at Sabo told BBC, how the crisis occurred.

He said, “(As) I was sleeping before observing dawn prayer. I heard people running for their own lives on motorbikes, then I was told that, it was a fight between Hausa and Yoruba. I could not run as I am a stranger; I know no where. I remained seated on my mat. I could hear gunshots, but I could not see the victims. It started when. I was asleep.

“The gunshots have now been put off as security personnel were deployed. It’s an Hausa Okada rider who knocked down a yoruba lady and was chased by her kinsmen down to Hausa area, and they are beating him, before Hausa community intervened. I am now taking refuge at Sabo. Three people were shot, but I could not ascertain if they are dead or not. I also witnessed them burgling and looting shops,” he said.

The recent clash transpired less than four weeks, following a fierce communal clash between Hausa community and Yoruba in Shasha market, which reportedly claimed a number of lives as well as properties worth millions of naira.

The Apata is a densely populated Yoruba community occupied by Hausa indigenes who engage in trading perishable goods as well as secondhand metals.
