Afenifere pressures Buhari to Sack the Education Minister

Obinwannem News Afenifere pressures Buhari to Sack the Education Minister

The Yoruba socio-cultural organization known as Afenifere has asked the Muhammadu Buhari Administration to sack the country’s Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu for reversing the decision to reopen schools and resume the academic session.

The Minister had earlier on said that schools in Nigeria will not reopen soon due to COVID-19 threat, thereby forestalling the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for fear of the Coronavirus.

The Minister also affirmed that students may lose an academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In reaction, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa the Secretary-General of the association, Afenifere, condemned the Minister’s approach towards the reopening of schools, stressing that the government should devise protective measures for the students while they return back to school.

Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa in his statement said; “Adamu Adamu should be sacked, he cannot bring our school system back to the stone age. They had about six months to plan for these children what did the Federal Government do?

“It means the two of them (Adamu and the Minister of State for Education) don’t know what they are doing, so they should go. I think the two ministers in the ministry should go. Why would one say the pupils should resume taking their papers in August and the other minister would come and reverse the order?” he concluded.
