Abba Kyari, the President’s Chief of Staff has died of COVID-19 according to a public statement by the Presidency on Friday, April 17.

Another announcement by the Presidency followed stating the Chief of Staff has been buried in Abuja.

”We just received the body of Abba Kyari the deceased Chief of Staff the President in Abuja. In strict observation of the protocol put in place for the burial of Coronavirus victims by the @NCDCgov and the Federal Ministry of Health, the funeral prayer and burial will be private.”

As at the time of filing this report, the president has not said a word about his dead aide neither was he present at the burial.

Kyari, 81, had underlying health problems, including diabetes and till his death was the most powerful man in Nigeria.

So far, Kyari’s death is arguably the highest-profile death in the African continent due to the COVID-19 global health crisis.

There’s a total of 17 deaths and 493 confirmed cases in the West African country according to the Nigerian Center For Disease Control (NCDC).
