There is an ongoing debate on who should win this year’s Ballon D’or ? and a 30-man shortlist has been released for this year Ballon D’or, 7 of Liverpool players made the list.
The likes of Salah, Mane, Firmino, Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Wijnaldun, and Alisson. Manchester City had five players who made the list. There is no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who has won the award ten times between them made the list, but there is a word is it likely to be between Ronaldo, Messi and Van Dijk.
Should Messi win the forthcoming award; he is no doubt one of the best players in the history of football and the 2018/19 season was good to him. He was Laliga’s top scorer with a total of 36 goals. He was also the last season champion’s league top scorer with 12 goals to his name by winning the golden shoe for the 2018/19 season. Lionel Messi leads Barcelona to win Laliga’s title but knocked out of the champion’s league by Liverpool and lost the Copa Del Rey final to Valencia.
Ronaldo is also one of the best players of this generation, last season he moved from Real Madrid to Javentins by scoring 21 goals in his first season in the Serie A side and also won the Serie A title and supper coppa Italian scoring the only goal against AC Milan. He won the UEFA nations league scoring 3 goals for Portugal. He became the first player to win 3 major league titles that are the premier league Laliga and Serie A.
Though Van-Dijk is not on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo the Dutchman had an impressive 2018/19 campaign. He is arguably the world best-defender and he won the 2018/19 UEFA champions league with Liverpool. He was named the premier league player of the season for 2018/19 by winning the UEFA’s best player for 2019.
Van Dijk was among the Liverpool side that won Barcelona 4-0. After losing to them in the first league by 3-0. They progressed to the champions league final which they later won by beating Tottenham 2-0. I have to give reasons why Ronaldo, Messi or Van Dijk should win the BallonD’OR.
