Liver disease is a health condition that leads to foot swelling due to the liver not working properly. This results in excess fluid in your legs and feet, which leads to swelling. It can be triggered by genetic factors. Viruses, alcohol, and obesity are also associated with damage to the liver.

  1. Heart failure

Heart failure occurs when your heart isn’t capable of pumping blood correctly. This can lead to swollen feet because your blood isn’t moving to your heart well. If your ankles swell in the evening, it could be a sign of right-sided heart failure. 

  1. Blood clot

Blood clots are solid clumps of blood. They can form in the veins of your legs. This hurts the flow of blood flow to your heart and causes swollen ankles and feet. Often it happens on one side of your body.

  1. Edema

Edema is a common condition where too much fluid is trapped in your body’s tissue. This leads to swelling and puffiness of the tissue directly under your skin in your feet, ankles, and legs. It can also impact your hands and arms.
